Dragonfly Transplant Fund 2024 Scholarship Awardee: Theresa Moore

Each year, the Dragonfly Transplant Fund is honored to bestow a unique scholarship to staff in the Organ Transplant Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in memory of Dragonfly Transplant Fund co-founder, Deb Brown. This scholarship is to be used for staff to participate in specialized trainings, meetings, and other continuing education opportunities to improve the transplant process for patients, caregivers, and families.

In 2024, Theresa Moore, a nurse in the UIHC Organ Transplant Center, was able to attend the NATCO (The Organization for Donation and Transplant Professionals) Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL with the Dragonfly Transplant Fund scholarship.

Theresa shared the following with our Dragonfly Transplant Fund volunteers:

I always wanted to be a nurse. I was inspired by a family friend who was an OB nurse. I just thought she was wonderful.

My career progression went from an LPN to eventually obtaining my Master’s in nursing. I have experience in plasma centers, medical offices, and hospitals – both in-patient and out-patient. After obtaining my Master’s degree, I transferred to the Organ Transplant Center to help start the education program for both patients and staff.

The Dragonfly program is a godsend for both patients and transplant nursing. They awarded me a scholarship to be able to go to NATCO’s annual meeting in Orlando, Florida. It allowed me to learn from colleagues across the country which was a great learning experience.
— Theresa Moore

On behalf of the Dragonfly Transplant Fund, our volunteers would like to congratulate Theresa on her scholarship award and extend an enormous thank you for her service to transplant patients, their families, and their caregivers at the UIHC Organ Transplant Center.
