On Saturday, October 5th, hundreds gathered at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines, Iowa, for the Iowa Donor Network Give Life 5K. The annual event honors those who have given the gift of life, celebrates the lives of organ and tissue recipients, and recognizes those who continue to wait for a life-saving transplant.

With beautiful weather on our side, volunteers with Dragonfly Transplant Fund were able to attend the Give Life 5K and showcase Dragonfly as a resource for those in the transplant community.

"Dragonfly hasn't been around forever," explains Nicole Schroeder, volunteer with Dragonfly Transplant Fund. "We enjoy being present at Iowa Donor Network events to support IDN, to honor Deb, and to ensure the transplant community knows we are here. We want to support them to the best of our ability during the transplant process."

Whether attendees at the 5K were running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, all participation helped make a difference. In 2023, 123 donor heroes in Iowa gifted a remarkable 350 organs for transplant and an unprecedented 1,027 tissue donors, with unwavering generosity, enhanced the lives of 50-300 individuals each. Through transplant, the gift of life is given and cherished by so many. It was an honor for the Dragonfly Transplant Fund to attend the event this fall. We look forward to participating again in 2025!
